BLACKOUT PROBLEMS CONTROL ROOM

Mario Radetzky is a singer, guitarist, and the mastermind behind the Munich-based band Blackout Problems. Recently, he moved into his new studio, where he plans to continue crafting great songs for his band in the future. The walls are freshly painted, so all that’s needed now is proper acoustics – and that’s where t.akustik comes in handy!

His control room is relatively long and dominated by a large window front, which Mario would like to keep for a pleasant daylight feel. Therefore, he opts for four t.akustik Tube Traps at the front, which primarily dampen bass and effectively “de-boom” the room.

Tube Traps are best placed in the room corners, which can be done both side by side and stacked on top of each other. This arrangement appears particularly inconspicuous and elegant in Mario’s space because it doesn’t block the windows. And if needed, the traps can simply be repositioned – a fixed installation is not necessary here!

The studio's side walls, on the other hand, are very smooth and parallel, typically untreated. This creates unpleasant flutter echoes and makes critical listening impossible. With the help of a friend, he promptly attaches the new t.akustik Stripe Absorber 120 here, using our t.akustik Contact Glue. This process is very straightforward and done in no time!

By the way, the Stripe Absorbers used here are special absorbers for the mid-range, which are now often used “just” as decorative elements. However, with their wooden strips, they not only provide an elegant appearance but also scatter back slightly diffusely in the high range. This benefits the treble particularly well and prevents the room from being “over-damped” or sounding “muffled”. This works particularly well here because there was already an acoustic installation on the room’s ceiling, which looked somewhat similar – thus harmonizing perfectly with the t.akustik Stripe Absorbers!

Subsequently, Mario attaches our beautiful t.akustik WDS-7 Diffusers to the back, which also break up reflected sound and diffuse it back into the room. This further avoids over-damping of the room and gives the space an open and pleasant feel. Another advantage: The WDS-7 Diffusers are very lightweight, so it’s not a problem to simply stick them to the doors of the existing built-in cupboard.

The final measurements then show that not only does everything look good, but it also sounds good now – Mario is visibly satisfied, and we’re eagerly anticipating the new music. Enjoy your new studio!
